Is anyone else experiencing problems with their notes following the iOS 18 update? Until yesterday my notes app was working fine and I was able to use it like I’ve always done. Since yesterday on September 17, 2024, the app’s been completely unusable and you can’t click on your notes without the app freezing or crashing.

This update is horrendus for notes, it was working fine before the update to ios18. I’m a huge user of notes and have thousands on icloud. It’s unsuable now, notes freezes, glitches, lags and I can’t access important documents. This is infuriating. I’ve unsynced and trying to re-sync my notes to see if that does anything, and the process is taking forever to re-sync.

I followed your steps but when I turned off Sync for my iPad, I got this pop up - see screen shot. I didn’t want my Notes deleted so I tapped on Cancel.
Same problem with iPad Pro, so have not downloaded IOS 18 to iPhone until the problem is sorted. Will try your problem solving, thanks.
I’m seeing the same issue on my iPhone 12 Max. Apple have seriously broken this app, the fix needs to be released ASAP!
SAME PROBLEM NOTES APP EITHER DOENST OPEN FREEZES WHEN. IT DOES CRASHES OR IS VERY LAGGY AND SLOW EVEN AFTER TODAYS LATEST UPDATE
I use the notes app VERY intensively and after the IOS 18 update it takes about 30 seconds to load each note that's a bit long. I'm going insane.
I wrestled with this for a day. The issue was not the smaller notes but very large ones. The app would lock up.
The remedy was to change the name of the file in iCloud. The solution was instant. The conflict was gone and I was able to access Notes again on my iPhone 15 ios18
Notes crashes every few seconds. I have plenty of space in my phone. My iCloud is full, but I don’t want to pay more money. Is Apple forcing us to pay for more iCloud to be able to use Notes?
Crazy thing is, all Microsoft apps work fine with OneDrive, so I’ve switched to using those to collaborate on lists, notes, etc. with my family.
Seems like I might as well save money and buy an Android next time if Apple can’t keep basic things working like Notes. #smh

My iPad updated yesterday and had the same issue, deleted it all, unsynced it reinstalled seemed to work again yesterday but back the not working this morning. As someone who uses my notes all the time this is so fustrating as can’t click on anything!
I have the same issue and was horrified to find my Notes hanging and unable to read at all. What I did as a workaround was following some suggestions here to login to iCloud on a laptop and copying and pasting my notes into emails for storage. Then deleting the longest note before the issue resolved. Now it’s back to normal. Apple should resolve this asap it’s disruptive and inconvenient to users.
Same issue here on IPad Pro M2, large lecture notes with pure text are fine (mostly). Turned off ICloud sync which kind of helped. While taking notes with lots of math and calculations Notes tend to crash. Personally found two workarounds:

My apps are also crashing since I upgraded to ios18 even my instagram Snapchat
Same thing is happening on my son’s iPhone 16 Pro Max. The Notes App freezes and crashes. Can’t even use the App or create new notes.
Notes and Freeform are very slow or crushing… I’m hating ios18… I’m using 15 pro max
I followed these same steps and mine is still unusable. Crashes in under 2 minutes regardless of what note I am in.
