Photos not previewing or importing after Sequoia and iOS 18 update

Photos on MacOS is BY FAR the worst application that Apple's "written".

It's almost like they gave up on it back in 1999. I'm seeing disconnects when doing imports (with the DELETE after import option checked). So, nothing gets deleted.

And this is Apple's LATEST operating systems and some of their latest equipment.

You just have to live with it. Multiple updates have never fixed this. I've even gone as far as calling support and screen sharing and showing the techs what's happening, sharing logs - and then I hear nothing back.

It's more sad than frustrating.

same. It keeps disconnecting my phone when I try to import my iPhone pics to my Mac via lightening cable. I can only import one picture at a time before it disconnects. Happy to know there isn't physically anything wrong with either of my device. Just seems like its an irritating bug with the new update.

Another quick question - how big is the photolibrary file you're working with? Mine is 1.2 TB and it's the one with all sorts of problems.

I do have another .photolibrary file that's less than a TB and it seems to be OK. I have a strong feeling MacOS cannot keep up with larger libraries.

Try this: quit from Photos on your Mac, power off your iPhone, then power it back on, then relaunch Photos on your Mac. I had the same problem with the thumbnails in Photos not showing an actual preview--just the gray square containing a simple line drawing of a file folder, and importing not working--and this process fixed it for me.
