Can’t turn off Require FaceID in iPad Calendar

Hello all. After installing iOS 18 on my third gen 11 inch iPad Pro, I made the unfortunate mistake of trying the new require Face ID feature. I have since been unable to turn it off for Calendars. Other apps seem to be OK. The setting shows that it’s off when I do a hard press on the app. However, Face ID is still required to open. Additionally, calendar selection is broken. No check marks materialize when a particular calendar is selected in the list. There is nothing to distinguish the selected from the unselected calendars and I basically have to guess which ones are selected just by looking at the event entries. Spent quite a lot of time on the phone with Apple advanced support and tried every typical fix, such as reinstalling the Calendar app, wiping the iPad and setting up as new, etc. Nothing has worked so far. This is obviously an iOS 18 bug. No similar issue with the iPhone. Quite frustrating. Has anyone else noticed this? Any fixes? Thanks in advance.

Well, just figured out how to fix. Leaving post up in case anyone else has this issue. Fix:

  • dragged Cal app from dock to screen
  • activated Cal widget (long press, then select whichever widget version)
  • turned off widget
  • cycled Require Face ID on/off again
  • presto! Face ID no longer required. And checkmarks are back in calendar list.
  • dragged Cal back to dock. Still working normally.

extremely weird. But here you go

Same problem iOS 18.0.1 on iPhone 16 Pro. It had FaceID enabled but can’t disable it even though menu thinks it’s disabled. Also can’t tell which calendars are showing or hidden (empty circle, clicking doesn’t add checkmark). Not a problem on my iPad Pro M4 also running 18.0.1. Only difference is never enable FaceID on iPad Calendar app. Above “fix” didn’t work for me.
