External Hard Drives Access Remotely

I have a Mac Studio that I have several external hard drives attached to. When I leave the house I have my Mac Pro laptop and I would like to be able to access the external drives like I can access the desktop so I don't have to continue transferring files etc every time I want to leave and use my laptop. Is there a way to do that? Both computers are running Sonoma 14.6.1

there are a few ways to proceed.

one is to take an assortment of files that might be needed outside and park them on an iCloud Drive, which is freely accessible to you from any device with the same Apple-ID. Cost: free within size limits

The traditional approach of reaching from the internet back to you home Mac is complex. TeamViewer is the most frequently suggested commercial software that does a good job of this. But a subscription is quite pricey.

A handmade solution can be built by enabling port-forwarding on your Router for internet requests -- forwarded to a specific Mac on your network, and make a cross-internet connection, right to that Internet-enabled Mac. This approach takes a hefty amount fiddling, a clear understanding of how this all works, AND exposes the networked Mac to potential attack from the internet. Not for the faint-hearted.
