Hi, I want to buy a second hand mac solely for my iPad backups. What is the oldest (cheapest) one I can buy? Do they become obsolete after a certain number of years and not allow you to connect to iTunes and do a device backup?

A Mac would need to be running at least High Sierra to be able to work with current iPad models; older units may work with an earlier OS version.
If you get one on Catalina or newer, backups and syncing are done in the Finder instead of iTunes.

Thanks for your reply. I have an iPad pro 2nd gen. So does that mean I will need one with high sierra? And would this computer be okay to use for this purpose for years to come? Thanks
1. That or a higher OS.
2. Future models and/or iPadOS updates may cause it to stop working with High Sierra.
