24b or 32b
doing a VO direct into iM, does it record 24b or 32b float?
if 24b (or 16b as I suspect) can iM contend with a 32b float source done outside iM?
Mac mini, macOS 12.7

A voice-over records at 32 bits per sample, at least according to a test I did.
To test, I created a test project and imported a photo into it. I then recorded a voice-over from within the iMovie app. Then I exported the project to my desktop and opened it with VLC. In VLC's menu, I clicked on Window/Media Information/Codec Details. A window popped up as follows:
You can see that it shows 32 bits per sample.

hmm, wonder if that is necessarily 32b floating.
trying to get better results with my remote client for his VOs with a Blue Yeti into his M1 mini.
Sometimes they're thin, like he's off mic. Sometimes they distort even though he says he doesn't adjust the mic gain. Guess there is only so much to expect from a $100 USB mic.
Even if it can't, I am sure you could use something like Audacity to convert it.
Actually, the voice-over exports at 32 bit. I am assuming that it records at 32 bit. It is a .wav file in iMovie.
