PCIe SSD enclosure for original SSD from A1419 iMac

I need to remove the PCIe SSD that came with my 2015 iMac A1419 and put it in an external enclosure, but I'm not sure exactly what enclosure to get as there seem to be lots of variations in the kind of PCIe SSD that specific enclosures will and won't work with. Mine is a 12+16 pin Samsung drive which has the model number MZ-KPU1T0T/0A1 - I've tried searching for '12+16 pin SSD enclosure' and also using the model number to search but the results give quite a few models that don't look correct. Is there anything specific I can put in the search to make sure I get the right enclosure (or any links that anyone could supply - I'm in the UK)?

iMac 27″, macOS 11.7

Maybe.

A1419 by itself matches a number of 2012 – 2017 iMacs. 2015 narrows it down to

  • iMac (Retina 5K, 27-inch, Mid 2015) – whose factory SSD is compatible with the Envoy Pro 1A
  • iMac (Retina 5K, 27-inch, Late 2015) – which factory SSD is NOT compatible with the Envoy Pro 1A

You can see this information by expanding the Compatibility section of the OWC product description.

I'm not familiar enough with the encoding scheme to tell whether "MZ-KPU1T0T/0A1" refers to the 27" Mid 2015 iMac or the 27" Late 2015 one.  > About This Mac, and/or the iMac's model ID, might make it easier to check whether this is a suitable enclosure.

I would suggest that you contact a reliable storage vendor, tell them what you have, and let them advise you. That way you have recourse should you get the wrong thing. Someone else here may be able to make a specific recommendation of a vendor, but I've had very good results working with Other World Computing's products, and they have UK-based resellers, listed here:

You might see if there's one in your area and if so talk to them.

Regards.
