Attempting to create a result using the first 7 characters of a string in the IF function

I am creating a spreadsheet in Numbers that has the balance update only under certain conditions. For example if A1 ="Deposit" then I get a result. I want get the same results but use Deposit plus a short note like Fred in the description so I know where the Deposit came from. I tried adding the Left function and defined 7 characters but I crashed and burned.

Another way to look at it is I want "Deposit" and "Deposit Fred" to be true in the formula. I want Deposit to be what determines the result and not any characters after the word Deposit.

Thanks

Tom
