When I go to the App Store and search ‘apple wallet’ the app appears and I can open it and see the credit card connected to my wallet. However there is no option to get the app and have it appear on my Home Screen. I have a newer iPhone 15.

The Apple Wallet is installed by default. If it shows an "Open" button in the App Store, it means it is actually installed on the iPhone.
It may have been moved to the App Library or into a folder, so you will have to look for it there and drag it out to a Home Screen you want it on.
