How do I take a number/text string such as Z945692345F and separate each character or digit into its own unique cell?

...and if you don't want a row of numbers at the top, you can use COLUMN() instead. If the first character is in column B then use COLUMN()-1 in place of the B$1 in Ian's formula.

The function MID is your friend.
Prepare your table with numbers in Header Row 1.
Formula in B2 is MID($A2,B$1,1)
Fill right and fill down.
