no sound with older clips after iMovie is 10.4.1

I have some projects with older clips. Everything was working fine with iMovie 10.4. After Upgrading the app und library to 10.4.1, there was no sound anymore at these older clips from a miniDV camcorder. The audio format is "Linear PCM, 16 Bit Little Endian Ganzzahl mit Vorzeichen, 48000 Hz". Opening an affected clip in the lib with Quicktime, sound is working fine. So the codec therefore might be gone in iMovie with the update from 10.4. to 10.4.1. Any ideas how I can get back the codec into 10.4.1 ?

Hi,

The Linear PCM codec that you describe is apparently not supported by iMovie. I don't see it listed anywhere as a supported codec.

Try converting the clip to Mp4/AAC with the free download, Handbrake. That should solve the issue.

A simple way to do it is to open Handbrake and do a File/Open Source. Navigate to your video and choose it as the source from the resulting screen. Then do File/Start Encoding. Wait a couple of minutes for the conversion to

complete. Then save and import the converted clip into iMovie.

Thanks. The projects are already in progress for a while. There are hundreds of clips imported, cut and arranged. So reencoding and importing would do, but all the work is gone. Handbrake doesn't have an option for passthru on video, otherwise I would have tried to reencode audio of the clips inside the library.

Sometimes with upgrades iMovie preferences need resetting to insure proper functioning. Try deleting/resetting preferences. Close iMovie and then reopen while holding down the Option and Command keys. Select to delete preferences in the boxthat appears. iMovie will open in a new empty library. Reopen your old library to get back to your projects. Now see if you get sound in your project. Possibly you may need to reboot to set the changes. Deleting preferences is a safe procedure that will not cause data loss or disruption to your project.
