Latest podcast won’t show up in feed

I have had 111 podcasts successfully feed to Apple Podcasts within an hour at most. It’s now six hours since I published #112 in exactly the same way and no sign of it. Any ideas as to why this one is not working?

It's normal for a new episode to take up to 2 days to appear. If you've had quici appearances you've just been lucky. Apple Podcasts caches the feeds, and visits them in some sort of rotation to check for updates: there are many thousands. Of course if you've introduced an error of some sort then the episode may never appear - for example by repeating the contents of a 'guid' tag, though this is unlikely if one of the podcasting services is making your feed for you. In any case I obviously can't diagnose it any further unless you post the URLs of both your feed and your Apple Podcasts page.

I tried posting what my podcast was and the moderator edited it away. But I’ll try again:

And honestly, it’s never taken anywhere near two days, or even eight hours. Frankly surprised that something often topical can take that long— do news or politics podcasts tolerate that?

A little followup. So I logged into Apple Podcast Connect and... it looks like whatever I did years ago (or my friend did for me) has been parly carried over to A.P.C. As in, I can see my podcast listed there-- but the last date it shows for my podcast being updated is "Monday, June 3, 2024 8:06 AM."

So it looks like the connection from Soundcloud is broken. But I guess that's good news that I don't need to create a whole A.P.C. account or whatever, I just need to fix a broken connection from Soundcloud?

That's not the feed URL, but the Soundcloud page for the episode. However by searching on the podcast title in the Podcasts app (on a Mac) I was able to subscribe to the podcast: on a Mac this reads the feed directly so is unnafected by the delay I mentioned. Episode 112 does not appear: so either it's not actually present in the feed or there is an error of some sort. I would need the actual feed URL (the one you submitted to Podcasts Connect) to pursue this. (I probably won't be able to answer until tomorrow UK time as it's almost my bedtime)

The URL you give is for Podcasts Conect but requires a sign-in, so I can't access it.

Evidently the submission of the feed was handled for you. Once done, adding an episode in Soundcloud would add it to the feed. I'm not familiar with Soundcloud, but once you've created an episode there do you need to take a specific step to publish it to the feed? Possibly you didn't do that this time, or it failed to 'take'. This is something you will have to take up with Soundcloud.

Talked to my friend who originally set it up. He checked everything on both Podcast Center and Soundcloud. Everything looks "not broken" to him. He used the Refresh button in Podcast Center and managed to get it to say yesterday as the last time it was updated, where it previously said June. So I'm hoping that means it will finally turn up in podcast apps now, but it hasn't yet.

Any more thoughts? Again, nothing has changed on my end, not sure what the answer is if it does not populate now. And does that mean every episode, I will have to go ointo Podcast Center and manually make it refresh?

I would pay the $20 a year for Apple Podcasts Creators if I had any assurance that would help.

A reasonable assumption, but we sure could not spot what it could be. Again, NOTHING was ever changed on my end about how Soundcloud communicated with Apple Podcasts. I don't know where I go from here. Mail it out to everyone on CD-Roms?

When you say you subscribed on a Mac directly, what does that mean? You subscribed on Soundcloud? Or where? It's definitely published on Soundcloud, you can search on a non-signed-in Soundcloud page and find it open to the public.

Soundcloud creates a feed - a text file in a specific format containing all the information on your podcast. You submit this to Podcsts Connect. ApplePodcasts then stores this to display, and checks periodically, so there can be a delay before it sees a new episode. On a Mac, when you subscribe, Apple Podcasts sends the URL of the feed (though you can't see that) and from then on you are reading the feed itself (in fact at frequent intervals) so new episodes appear pretty well at once. However if an episode appears on Soundcloud but not in the feed you won't see it.

So as I said, either Soundcloud hasn't put the episode though to the feed, and I can't help you with that, or there is an error of some sort in the feed which obviously I can't check unless you post the feed's URL.

IT'S FIXED!

I looked at the URL for the new episode and it seemed different from the others, not sure why. (They usually have the content in them; this one just ended with 112a.)

So I reloaded the episode and got the right kind of URL. Since I learned from you how to go directly to the feed in ITunes or Podcast or whatever, when I did so, the new version of episode 112 was there. A half hour later, it went to the world. Who knows why, but "works" and "I know what to look might be wrong next time" are good enough for now.

Thank you for your help, I really appreciate it.

Thank you for your help.

So I never heard of "Apple Podcasts Connect" until a few hours ago. In 2017 a friend helped me set up Soundcloud to directly send a podcast to what was then iTunes. Beyond that I don't remember the details, but the point is I haven't had to for seven years—it did automatically work, not the instant I published on Soundcloud, but as I said within about an hour. Apparently I need to redo all that with "Apple Podcasts Connect?" (Not that Apple ever told me that...) Any help with how to do something about this (not like I had anything else to do right now) would be greatly appreciated. Things not breaking when they don't need to would be even more appreciated, but is apparently not how things work now...
