How can I connect my WD Passport to my iMac for backup?
I purchased a WD passport due to no more storage on iMac but it will not allow me to back up or connect to my desk top

Here is the normal procedure I use.
You mentioned that you are out of storage. That means that you will also need another external disk on which to store files.

I done this on mac book air go to settings > time machine > click on + > then you will have the disk there > select it > if you have something there it will warn you if you want to delete everything and then it will start backuping
