How can I prevent album artwork mix-ups in iTunes?

What has happened to Gracenote? I recently had to reload my music library into iTunes and hundreds of albums that previously had artwork no longer did. On top of that, a good portion of the albums titles "Greatest Hits" had the artwork for Billy Idols Greatest Hits regardless of the artist.

See Grouping tracks into albums for some thoughts. Personally I make sure that each album title is unique. I.e. in my library the album you mention would be "Greatest Hits - Billy Idol" which can never be confused with a different greatest hits album, and is identifiable in a simple list of albums such as that generated by the column browser or in the sync selection boxes. This should ensure that any artwork stays with the one album and doesn't show up in the wrong places. I also embed artwork into every track so that it is always there if I copy the files into a new library.
