How to move iTunes music from Windows 7 pc to Windows 10 pc

In the effort to be a more hardware current, I've finally updated to a newer PC using Windows 10. Problem is, my old laptop (using Windows 7) has my collection of nearly 3000 tracks in iTunes which I cannot figure how to transfer to the newer Apple Music application. The old laptop will not take a Windows 10 update therefore I can't just install Apple Music on it and go from there.

I tried saving my music to an external hard drive to reinstall on the new laptop but that resulted in a screenful of computer text so it appears the needed format/file type doesn't carryover that way or I did something else wrong.

Not the most computer savvy so there's that to deal with too.. : /
