Email being deleted from multiple accounts

My wife and I have 3 gmail accounts that we have synced on our 4 Apple devices, 2 iphones and 2 iPads. We have been using the Mail app for years with no problems. After a recent update, emails are now being opened and or deleted in multiple accounts. For example, if we receive an email from a sender that is sent to both my email and my wife's, if either of us opens the email, it will also show as read in the others email. Same if I delete an email in my account, it will delete from my wife's. This has caused us both not to see some important emails. This has caused us to have to use a third party app until we can figure out how to resolve this problem.

Apple - This is a real issue!!!

in prior IOS versions (I believe 15 and lower) deleting an email from one email account did NOT delete it from another email account that is also set up in apple's mail application (and was on copy on the originally sent email). somehow rhe messages in different email accounts are linked so one affects the other.

for example, if i have my personal email account as well as another work email account both set up in Apples mail app, and i receive the same email message to both addresses, moving or deleting it from one of the two accounts also moves or deletes it from the second (other) account even-though the second account's email message may not have even have been read yet.

This issue is 100% reproducible.

Please have the courtesy to acknowledge this Bug and please also respond with detailed plans to fix, and when.

Same -- single email sent to two different accounts on iOS Mail app; deleting the email in either account deletes it from the other as well. On Mac mail, if I delete the email from one account it is left unread in the other account (which is the expected behavior), so it seems this is an iOS issue only, not a server issue. These are Gmail accounts so I've looked to see what is happening directly in Gmail through my browser -- the iOS Mail app does delete both emails on the server when deleting just one on my iPhone. I have deleted all accounts on my iPhone, restarted, deleted/reinstalled the Mail app -- nothing changes this behavior.

This is crazy -- can't be by design. Apple, please chime in!

Hi All

I've had the same problem (for Deletion AND Reading emails) for quite some time but in all threads on iOS and IMAP see no resolution

For @Apple Support Team

Setup

  1. 1 IMAP server/provider
  2. Two email accounts - hubby@provider.com.au and wife@provider.com.au
  3. Both email accounts are configured on my iPhone with latest iOS…
  4. The ports are configured manually with the same ports etc except for username and password

Scenario

  1. Conversation threads - Unchecked
  2. Email is sent from a friend to both of us ( ie wife@ and hubby@)
  3. I read the friends email on my iPhone from hubby@
  4. The email is flagged as read for both of us on all devices
  5. I Mark it as Unread on my iPhone from the hubby@ the email is changed for both of us on all devices
  6. Reading the friends email on my iPhone from wife@
  7. The email is flagged as read for both of us on all devices
  8. Mark it as Unread on my iPhone from the wife@ account the email is changed for both of us on all devices
  9. Read the friends email from Outlook on laptop only one account affected

It appears the iOS/iPhone is treating emails that appear to be the same/shared pieces of information

If they ARE, AND configured as separate email accounts they MUST be treated as separate atomic pieces of information.

This has been going on for months but I’ve just worked around it, but, it’s working around a fundamental flaw of how iOS is managing the email

It would be great to have this basic function resolved

Please advise

Same problem here. Before, my wifi and me had no problem with the same mail sent to each of our mailboxes (no alias mail addresses). Now, reading a mail in one account sets the status as read in the other. Deleting a mail deletes the mail in the other. Moving a mail to another folder has the same effect. This occures on our IPhones and Ipads. No problem on PC.

SAME problem in both iPhone (12Pro) iPad (11Gen, iOS 17.5.1)

exactly as you describe here!

Had the problem on my iPhone too with synched Email accounts, since updating to iOS 15 on iPhone as well.

This caused serious trouble for me and my company and several devices on shared email accounts with own domain ending, but sent to different mailboxes.

Hope SOMEBODY useful at apple has a solution quick in such a stupid issue, that used to work PERFECT before!

As said so often, NOT everything NEW is good!

apple, go back to the old mail system and get that issue fixed!

it 100% is an apple iOS issue!

Had the same problem on my iPhone before, never used mail on that device after i realized that HUGE issue, cause by mail from apple iOS on iPhone, recently updated iPad to iOS 17.5.1 and now i'm having that same mail problem on iPad as on my iPhone before too.

So therefore, totally AI issue on apple iOS, because all worked fine (as usual) till i updated iOS.

Totally apple's fault!

.... and really lousy support so far, got into deep trouble already because of those "OUT OF MY CONTROL" issue, just because i use an apple product! :-(

apple support = 0

can't help they ALL say!

apple store . . . they don't even recognize the issue, even if i demonstrate it to them in the store!

REALLY apple? . . .

We are trying to make life easy by buying an expensive apple product, but that company makes our life's miserable more and more!

I'm so angry, have no words!

Wonder if you feel the same? . . . or maybe you found a solution already?

Jul 23, 2024 6:36 AM in response to patmcdime

.... or to NOT buy and apple product anymore as it works fine on ALL android operated devices as i found out from colleagues, who were in the same email loop.

It's 100% apples iOS AI fault!

. . . . but they all "know nothing", that's the worst part of it!

i've invested hours by calling, going to apple stores and even demonstrating the issue!

weeks later . . .

N O T H I N G ! :-(

I might just use your method too.? (but know for sure, i had it with apple)
