Multiple issues with apple products

I know the request is for a descriptive title but I wanted to reach out to the community to see if people in general are having more issues than usual with applie products. Below is a list of just SOME of the many issues I've had in the past few months. I own several macs, two are currently in use - iMac 27inch and new Mac Studio, iphone and ipad.

iPhone:

  • Randomly muting ALL the time so I don't hear phone calls or text messages. This has been going on for over two years. I upgraded my phone thinking it would fix this problem. It didn't. I've missed so many important business calls because of this. I've spent hours trouble shooting including talking to apple with no resolution.
  • I just called apple support to ask about another issue (with my studio) and the phone buttons wouldn't work so I couldn't pick the department i needed and apple hung up on me. I had to restart my phone to fix this. This took time which costs money.
  • Siri keeps turning on when I'm using my headphones and trying to leave people voice messages or talking on the phone. I have turned Siri off EVERYWHERE but it still comes on and disconnects my calls/messages. Why on eart is Siri still coming on. I DON'T WANT SIRI ON MY PHONE.
  • Apple music keeps playing randomly in the middle of when I'm trying to leave voice messages when I've got my headphones on. I've ended up deleting the app as it was doing this all the time. I hadn't been into music for months when it first did it.
  • Spotify and Audio keep randomly playing when I haven't asked them to. I would delete those apps too but I need them.
  • Now suddenly my iphone is not showing up in AirDrop on any of my devices. It's worked fine for years. Till now. I just tried to reach out to Apple and they hung up on me!

iMac 27in

  • I've got this set up near my mac studio while I transfer information over to my studio. This was working fine... until today when I tried to do something on my iMac 27inch and I can't use it because the two mice I've tried to use on it are showing on my new mac studio so I literally can't do anything on my old mac. One is an apple corded mouse, USB and is plugged into the iMac. The other is a microsoft mouse, USB, cordless - plugged into the iMac 27inch. These devices have been working fine on my iMac 27inch for other three years. I DIDN'T ASK MY MACS TO DO THIS. WHY DOES APPLY PRESUME THINGS. WHY CAN'T THEY LET US CHOOSE OUR SETTINGS AND TURN THINGS ON IF WE WANT THEM ON? I have lost yet more income trying to sort this out. I'm giving up. I don't have time to sort this. I'm simply losing too much income on apple issues. I just hope I never have to use my iMac again.

Mac Studio

  • When I first set it up it wouldn't allow me to swap the mouse around to right-handed. I was on the phone ti apple for AGES trying to sort it. In the end they said it can't be done and that it's Microsoft's problem. I brought a new mouse. One that was 100% compatible with the latest apple OS. I installed the new mouse and saw that the settings had been changed back to left handed. I didn't do that. I am 100% certain that I set it to right handed. WHY IS APPLE CHANGING SETTINGS AROUND AUTOMATICALLY WITHOUT MY PERMISSION?
  • Mac Mail: I couldn't set up one of my email accounts as iMAP. Mac mail kept defaulting to POP3. I reached out for help with apple and they told me it must be because the provider doesn't support iMAP. I knew that it did. I figured out a way to trick mac mail into letting me set it to iMAP.
  • Mac Mail: We now can't make advanced changes to mac mail accounts. Apple has completely shut us off from doing this.

I've lost over a hundred hours worth of income trying to sort out mac issues in the past 12 months alone.

Is anyone else experiencing this many issues?

I think that now that you have articulated the problems in writing, you are half way to solving them.

Your problems seem to be a very complex interaction with wifi, bluetooth, and receiving calls and message on multiple devices at the same time. I have some suggestions about things to try in that regard.

One small step toward reducing bluetooth and Wi-Fi traffic might be to connect to the Internet with Ethernet instead.

along there same lines, I suggest you try a wired headset, rather than bluetooth. What computer/phone is it connected to?

if using more wired keyboards and mice, you may be able to adjust sharing and universal control so that it bends to your will.

Bluetooth and wireless+USB devices including USB printers are all competing for the very crowded and interference prone 2.4 GHz band of the Wi-Fi spectrum. Bluetooth headsets as well. WiFi devices assigned to a fixed channel, and Bluetooth moving through the entire 2.4 GHz band using channel--hopping.

My suggestions are an attempt to get more of your stuff OFF that crowded and interference-prone band, and maybe all would work better. Connecting the computers with Ethernet cables could possibly reduce the data in that band.

Having your muse motions appear on the wrong computer suggests you may have activated Universal Control, which Apple might have issued in the ON state by default.

An additional load on the 2.4 GHz band is the possibility even more interference from badly-shielded USB-3 devices:

Why do I have difficulty with Wi-Fi or Bluetooth devices when USB 3 devices are attached to my computer?

Some USB 3 devices can generate radio frequency interference that can cause Wi-Fi and Bluetooth devices operating in the 2.4GHz band to have issues communicating with your computer. Here are some tips to avoid this issue:

• If your USB device has a cable long enough that you can move the device, place it away from your Mac—and make sure not to place it behind your Mac, or near the hinge of its display. The antennas for Wi-Fi and Bluetooth are located there, and USB 3 devices placed there might interfere with your wireless connections.

• If you're using adapters or dongles on a Mac computer with Thunderbolt 3 (USB-C) ports, plug them into the front port on the left side of your Mac, or into the ports on the right side (if your computer has them). These ports are the farthest away from the antennas, making interference less likely.

• To avoid interference on the 2.4GHz band using Wi-Fi, try using the 5GHz band instead. You can change this on your wireless base station. Bluetooth always uses 2.4GHz, so this alternative isn't available for Bluetooth.

Thanks for taking the time to reply and offer suggestions.

I don't understand how connecting via ethernet would affect any of the issues I have on my mac? Mail settings and mouse setup wouldn't be impacted by that surely? And changing my mouse to wired is not an option - the point of that issue is that it wasn't working and now it is, and that Apple seem to change settings without my permission.

The only bluetooth device I use is the printer and that's mostly asleep.

I use a USB keyboard and mouse, Microsoft. The keyboard worked fine on the studio. It was the mouse that wasn't working initially ie. it was working but I couldn't swap the buttons around. Then suddenly once day I found it was working... or at least would have been if Apple hadn't taken it upon themselves to change my settings.

The router is about 3 metres away but again I am not sure how this is relevant to the issues I'm having?

I use wired headphones. I know what was causing the issue re Suri coming on - the adapter I use had become warn and must have been a bit faulty but my concern is that I had Suri turned off EVERYWHERE so in terms of privacy my thoughts are 'how dare Apple have the phone set up so Suri can still come on in curtain situations and not give us the control to completely turn Suri off/make Suri go away.

How is the Cellular reception in your computer-room?

My cellular reception there is really bad, and my Mac and my iPhone encounter a race condition where I get NO notifications on either device when a new message comes in, when expected behavior is BOTH should notify. The messages themselves show up on both devices just fine, but no notifications on either device. My assumption is that both seem to expect the other device to notify, and neither device does.

I thought about my issue when I was reading your complaints about notices, phone calls, and non-performance on your multiple devices in the same room.

My ugly work-around has been to turn off messaging on the Mac. The iPhone notifications then work great, just as expected. I am annoyed at having to type replies on the tiny pretend keyboard. but that is far better than not getting the notifications at all.

lol that's another issue I'm having that I forgot to include in my 'list' - yes I have that problem too where I don't seem to get notified of some messages on my iphone; text messages and phone messages that are left to let me know I've missed a call because I didn't hear the call because my phone defaulted to mute!

Cell phone reception is supposedly good in the main areas I have my phone. Bars are always pretty good. I changed to a new provider.

Sometimes I miss notifications because the phone has defaulted to mute. Other times I have no idea whey I missed them.

I don't use my computer for phone notifications.

Thanks once again for putting thought into this.

if your phone has actually defaulted to mute, you can change the lowest Mute setting to Vibrate. if the phone it is close you your body, you may detect the vibration.

My older phone with only fingerprint reader stayed 'live' much more than expected, and often opened random apps and made settings changes such as reducing volumes. My newer one with face-id does that MUCH more, but that just forces me to be MORE vigilant in making SURE it is closed-down before pocketing it.

That said, I still occasionally feel it getting warm in my pocket, and pull it out to find it is making a movie of the inside of my pocket.
