Had an iPhone 12 as gift from the states and I live in Europe.can activate my sim card

if it's sim locked to an usa carrier they need to release it first

I used a Vodafone temporary SIM card for the duration of my trip before returning home to the United States. Unlock my IPhone I bought a locked IPHONE from the US & I don’t know which carrier !! Is there any way to unlock the SIM card without knowing the carrier?
