Photos won't import from iPhone to Mac after Sonoma update.

Photos from my iPhone show up in the photos app, but when I select "import all new photos" it acts like its about to start (shows status bar), then my iPhone disappears from the device window/no photos are imported, then shows up again and the process starts all over.

I am using:

2023 M2 MacBook Air - Sonoma 14.0

iPhone 14 Pro - iOS 17.0.3

Apple Genuine USB-C to Lighting Cable

I've tried all the tricks (various cables, reboot each device, reset location & privacy, transfer to Mac or PC set to "Keep Originals", Disk Utility First Aid, etc.).

Need to get photos off my phone and onto my computer asap. Someone please help. Thank you.

MacBook Air 15″, macOS 14.0

I have been having the same issue—since upgrading to Sonoma on all 3 of my MACs (Studio, Mini and MacBook Pro), I can no longer import any pictures from my iPhone, nor can they be copied to the desktop and then dragged into Photos. This is so frustrating, and I can not seem to get an answer. This has been an issue for some time now, and there seems to be no update to rectify it.

After multiple failed attempts to transfer photos from iPhone to Mac using Photos, I successfully imported all but one file as follows:

a) Opened Image Capture,

b) Imported all photos to a new folder,

c) Drag/dropped folder into Photos,

d) successfully Individually dragged four photos noted in error message as "Failed to import", and

e) unsuccessfully dragged one large .mov file.

I used a similar method in the early days of iPhone because regularly some files failed to import to iPhotos. Eventually Apple seemingly solved the problem and I switched to direct to Photos import. Looks like the one needs be cautious again and use creative methods with the new Photos import. Hoping Apple can resume providing Error Messages feedback in Photos like it does in Image Capture.

Now to delete from the iPhone all the imported photos...🤷‍♂️

My MacBook Pro has the Monterey operating system, and was working fine downloading photos from my iPhone - until it wasn’t. I recognise the problem that you are talking about - this is what happened to my laptop too. I tried all sorts of fixes, with zero success, and this morning, I decided to plug the phone in as soon as I turned the computer on, without opening any programs or apps on either the computer or the phone. After a short interval of sorting itself out, IT WORKED!!!

My iPhone 16 Pro Max 1.0 TB (iOS 18.3.2) WON'T UPLOAD ANY PHOTOS to the Photos app on my 2023 MacBook Pro M3 Max 128 GB RAM (Mac OS Sequoia 15.4).

ANY SOLUTION TO THIS YET ?

This is actually INSANE. Lol.

I have a 2015 MacBook Pro that still runs perfectly fine.. but I was having issues with the Photos app. Since that 2015 MBP runs Mac OS Mojave 10.14.6.. I assumed that the newer iOS on my iPhone wasn't meshing well with the much older Mac OS 10.14.6. I had not updated the 2015 MacBook Pro OS since I got the machine 10 years ago.

I went out and bought a $6,000 MacBook Pro M3 Max with 128 GB RAM thinking that might help with the Photos application issue ... NOPE. Not at all. Still having the exact same issues as on my 2015 MacBook Pro.

LMAO. I STILL CAN'T get my Photos to upload from my fancy *** iPhone 16 Pro Max to my 6 THOUSAND dollar MacBook Pro.

Got me over here Googling :

"How to upload photos from iPhone 16 Pro Max to 2023 MacBook Pro M3 Max"

Looks like AirDrop and Image Capture are both alternative options to upload photos to my Mac.

Great suggestions, for sure.. but I'd rather use Photos app... the MAIN / FLAGSHIP Photos application in the Apple ecosystem.

I've got 2,000 + photos I want to upload all at once from a family vacation. They haven't been backed up in like 3 months because of this issue with uploading to Photos.

It's absolutely ridiculous that Apple has their clients SCRAMBLING AROUND ONLINE and on OFFICIAL APPLE FORUMS trying to find a "Fix" for this PHOTOS issue.

I'm so confused as to why this is so difficult to accomplish.

I've personally spent $15,000 + on Apple products over the past 15 years or so.

iPods

iPhones

MacBook Pros

HomePods

AirPods

Apple this, apple that... and this company can't even get their PHOTOS application to function properly ?

Literally mind-boggling.

PLEASE HIT ME UP if y'all find any answers to this apparently wide-spread issue amongst Apple customers.
