defaulting to whatsapp video, not facetime

hi, I'm been an Apple user for several years, about in the past week I got a new mobile number. put all my apple devices to factory settings and changed password to remove all traces of old number from my account. sign in all my devices as new, iMessage works fine on my new number, when someone tries to call me via FaceTimes on contacts app also via Siri, it defaults to WhatsApp video and not FaceTime. I have signed out of FaceTime app on all devices and signed back in again, no change. is this a software glitch as we are still in early stages of iOS 17 and macOS Sonoma ? I have checked all settings on FaceTime with settings and all ticks are present next to You Can be Reached by FaceTime at section. all devices are on latest iOS update and macOS.

thanks in advance

Hello alistairmck,

Thank you for reaching out to Apple Support Communities, and we'll be happy to help in any way we can. We understand you're having issues with calls defaulting to WhatsApp and not FaceTIme. Try the steps here to remove WhatsApp and test: If an app on your iPhone or iPad stops responding, closes unexpectedly, or won’t open - Apple Support

"If an app on your iPhone or iPad doesn't work as expected, try this.

Close and reopen the app

Force the app to close. Then open the app to see if it works as expected.

Restart your device

Restart your iPhone or restart your iPad. Then open the app to see if it works as expected.

Check for updates

To see if updates are available for the app, open the App Store, tap your profile icon, then scroll down to see if updates are available. If updates aren't available for the app, update the software on your iPhone or iPad.

Delete the app, then redownload it

Delete the app. When you do this, you might lose data that was stored in the app. Then redownload the app. Then check to see if the problem with the app is fixed.
