In my household, I have a 13 Pro Max and an XR. Both have iOS 17.0.2. After updating to 17, a search in photos by day (July 4 for example) only produces results for photos with July or 4 as text in the photo. The results won't include any photos taken on July 4. Prior to 17, when I would type a date the little calendar icon would appear to the left. No more. Anyone else?

Hooray. Today Apple released iOS 17.1 and after updating I found that specific date search is working!
Hopefully not an intentional removal, just a stuff up on someone’s part. I have seen that it is fixed on a b*ta version of next big update so hopefully that rolls out ASAP.
This morning I updated my Macbook Air to Sonoma 17.0. Prior to the update, I could find photos for specific days. After the upgrade, not possible. Nice work Apple.
It seems really dumb but I wonder if this isn't somehow related to the upcoming release of Apple's Journal app. I will be shocked if when released it doesn't have a "on this day" feature that produces photos taken on the specific day. It seems stupid as it seems like there wouldn't be a reason to remove the feature from photo searches but not stupid as it'd make a lot of users more interested in the Journal app.
For me it is still presenting the calendar icon, on iOS 17, but only, if there are photos taken at that date.
I stopped using the shared library too. But I can only test on with the language set to german on my iPhone and iPad. You could try to write the date in a slightly different format.
I don’t use iCloud - too many photos - so I don’t think that has anything to do with it. Reddit post says it has been fixed in a b*ta version, don’t know why not fixed on a published update.
I did try that, no luck. The XR was updated to 17 yesterday and prior to the update, date searches worked properly. The only date search working correctly on both is by month and/or year. As soon as I add a day of the month, the only results produced are of photos with text in the photos related to the search.
Thanks. I don't think it should matter but one additional piece of info is that both iPhones are sharing an iCloud+ subscription. There are "Shared Albums" but we don't have "Shared Library" set up.
Me too. I search the date and month each day for photo “memories” from the past years. Worked fine this morning then I upgraded to iOS 17 and now it only allows a month search. Very frustrating!
