Cannot send downloaded PDF to iPhone 14 Pro Max model #MQ8N3LL/A

A professional colleague, who does not like to use email, asked me to download the article I had mentioned (open access PDF from US NIH National Library of Medicine, PubMed Central) and send it as an attachment to a text message. I finally figured out how to save the PDF file to my iPhone Pro Max 14. So, I add the PDF to a message, and add a 100+ word description.

Now, my I phone tells me, "Your message was not sent. Tap "Try Again" to send this message."

Is this a Verizon problem and or a defect in my iPhone?

Why must I continually suffer professional embarrassment, when I supposedly purchased best phone Apple sells?

It could be a Verizon problem. But, as MrHoffman suggests, first make sure that you have Group Messaging and MMS enabled in Settings>Messages. Sending attachments to people with Android phones is different than sending them to people with iPhones, which uses iMessage.

Sending pictures (jpegs) is different than sending large documents. A quick internet search indicates that you cannot send pdfs via SMS/MMS using Verizon.

I can't speak to how using your computer to collect data from instruments would affect how you use it but working on a manuscript shouldn't prevent you from using email to send something if it fails when you try to send it from your phone.

Ensure both SMS and MMS are enabled. Settings > Messages

Past that, ensure the recipient is also accepting the SMS and MMS messages.

Then check with the recipient's carrier, if the messages are getting to other carriers.

If there is any embarrassment awaiting here, lies with the person that can’t manage downloading a PDF from the internet.

Here, I’d wonder if the person that somehow can’t download a PDF from the ‘net has other issues with their environment. Like they’ve filled up their available storage quota, for instance.

Print out the PDF, staple it, and hand it or snail-mail it to the recipient, like it’s 1993.

If I have my PC's tied up working on manuscripts or collecting data from scientific instruments, I would much rather have text messages and images on my iPhone

I did a small experiment with a couple of friends. One had an iPhone 14 (AT&T carrier) and the other also had an iPhone 14 with TMobile being the carrier. Both got the PDF document without problems and can also receive jpg images from my phone.
