iPhone 6 will not update/restart

Connecting to iTunes, I was told there is a new software update and did I want to download and install the latest version. Stupidly clicked Download and Update. I now have a phone that won't update or reset. All of Apple Support in Asia is close. Any advice, please. Thank you.

The latest update for the iPhone 6S is 15.7.8 and must be fairly recent as I make backups via iTunes fairly regularly.

iTunes is generally a disaster when it comes to letting it do the upgrade - I know this and have once again been done in through thinking it had been improved.

I finally managed to get the phone working again after a complete reset - what fun! To make matters worse, when I try to do a restore of the latest backup (I have tried 3 times) I am told the backup is corrupt and there goes all my photos and video from a 2-month South African trip!

Is there any way I can get to the photos in the seemingly corrupt backup?
