Archimedes personal accounts

I used Personal Accounts first on my Archimedes 20 years ago and up till recently on an emulator with my now defunct 27in. iMac. I now have this swish new 24 inch iMac and no emulator nor an equivalent to the marvellous old programme that was actually written in Basic. Does anyone know how to set up apple's Numbers to record one's daily shopping receipts and come up with an itemised list of categories?

Hi Strubble529,

Welcome to the Numbers forum!

OK. Try this to get you started.

I copied your list of categories and pasted into a Numbers table.

Your list has blank lines (double returns) and so I sorted the table ascending by column B:

Result was to move blank rows to the bottom of the table. Then I deleted all those blank rows.

Now we can make use of the feature in Numbers > Settings > General > Editing > Show suggestions when editing table cells

Insert some blank rows above your list of categories and type some characters to begin a category. Numbers will reveal suggestions from that column.

Click on a suggestion to choose it.

You can hide the rows containing your list of categories.

If this helps, please reply and either I or another user will give more details.

Regards,

Ian.

I tried to find out what Archimedes does with personal accounts.

With Numbers you might start with a look at the Personal Budget template at File > New in your menu. Is that close to what you want? It can quite easily be adapted to different needs.

Also have a look at the Categories feature:

Thank you P. Phillips. I already got that far on my own. I am attempting to resolve about 3 or 400 individual entries int about 50 categories.

Since the 2080s I have used an application called “Personal Accounts” originally written for the acorn archimedes (in Basic). It was a brilliant programme.  Every day or so I entered the details of every receipt in a long list - Date, paid from or by ( number from a list of bank accounts or for cash), amount, category (Baker

Maus was my wife’s little car. SW was Schneewittchen was our old Mitsubishi Express Van  The category was entered using a memorised 2 letter code e.g. M for juice, B for Greengrocer,S2 for sweets etc.

DH was Dolphin House where we have lived these latest four years.

It did not matter if the receipts were in the wrong chronological order a quick press of the sort button acted instantaneously. You could extend. The list for a year if you wanted.

At the end of the month a list of the total amount paid in each category was presented.  There was a facility to filter the result say if you wanted all medical expenses or all house related costs.  I was in a habit then of transferring these results to an Open Office Spreadsheet. I now have Libre Office which reads those old Open Office Spreadsheets that I wrote during the life of my 27in iMac which recently died.  The old iMac did have an Archimedes emulator with Personal Accounts.  I have now lost this during the changeover to the new Ventura iMac.

Although this maybe occurring on a computer running mcOs Ventura and you specifically request assistance on Apple's Numbers Application.

I will request this question be move to the Numbers Forums where some really fine and more expert Contributors on Numbers maybe better equipped to assist

All the Best
