Preview app: How to make thumbnail selection more obvious?

In Preview when reading a PDF, there is the view to show thumbnails as a panel on the left side of the screen.


The current page you're looking at is highlighted in this thumbnail view. However, the selection is very faint and hard to see. Is there a way to make the selected thumbnail look more obvious?

In Light appearance mode, you can only slightly darken that thumbnail selection border by visiting:


System Settings : Accessibility : Display : Increase Contrast (=⦿)


This will make things worse in Dark Appearance mode though.
