And there is a predefined Favorites album in the sidebar.

You are apparently referring to using a Mac (rather than a phone) and you refer to the long discontinued app "iPhoto." I'm going to guess that you mean the newer app "Photos" on a Mac.


There are a number of ways to see Favorites in an album. One way is to use the really convenient "Filter" button on the upper right side of the Photos window. When you click on that it opens a menu with a variety of ways to limit which pictures you see.


You can choose to see only videos, only the pictures with certain keywords, only those that have been edited, and only Favorites. If you click on Favorites, then the screen will show thumbnails of all the favorites in your album. Double clicking will bring a selected picture to fill the space. Fn-f will show the picture full screen.


You can get the same effect from the Menu bar by selecting View>Show>Favorites.


You can also use a Smart album and specify Photo--Is--Favorite.
