Sending voice messages, in iMessage

There used to be an icon in the text messages chat box that you would click on to record a voice message and said that somebody. But now it has only a microphone and when you click on it, it does text dictation. Which is great, but I really need to be able to use voice. The voice audio voice message feature is there a way to turn it back on or a setting?
