charger plugged in while updating software

Hi folks,

I opened up my brand new MacBook Pro with the M2 chip today. When the screen turned on it was at half battery so I decided not to plug it in.

After putting in my language, country and connecting to wifi I was asked if I wanted to update to the newest software.

I said yes however it never actually worked. I had to turn my computer on and off 3 times with still no result. I called apple care who said to just bypass it and wait till the rest was set up.

Once I plugged the power cord in and the rest of the computer was all good to go I was able upgraded just fine...

I'm more concerned that my laptop basically froze on the software page and am now wondering whether or not (even though hit seems to be working fine at the moment) if I should return it for a new one?

I really don't think you have any reason for concern. macOS upgrades can be a little rocky, and yes it's a good idea to connect it to power while performing the upgrade. I'm surprised it even let you do that without it being plugged in, because upgrades can take hours.

If everything is working properly now I wouldn't worry about it.
