I understand the Apple Watch has an integrated HRM which I use and works very well. A Chest HRM like Polar’s or Garmin’s is supposed to be more accurate and can be paired with treadmills or rowing machines. As I said before I tried pairing it with my watch but couldn’t.

I’m now told the Garmin Pro and Pro plus are compatible. I Will replace mine and try again. Thanks

I moved from chest straps to optical some years ago . I grew tired of having to put gel or saliva on half way through a run and all the laundry.

Re the polar ones, the optical arm strap was as accurate as the chest strap but the graph was more rounded as the sampling was more coarse.

The Apple and Garmin watches are even more accurate these days on the wrist sensors.

Good to know, thanks, I will look into the optical arm strap. I am curious to know if you have similar issues when using the Apple Watch. For example once you start an exercise session in the fitness app I find it often takes a very long time for the heart rate to start registering correctly. It remains greyed out for a significant time, while using a chest strap is more instant. True you still need to wet it before putting it on.
