One that that plugs into your Mac.

If you have difficulties with a specific monitor, try getting a higher bandwidth HDMI cable. That is to say, if you have a 1080p monitor, get an HDMI cable capable of 4K, or if a 4K monitor and you are having trouble, get an HDMI cable capable of 8K.

If you do not have any trouble with the manufactured provided cable, then leave well enough alone.

Depends on the monitor and how you're trying to connect it. Cheap monitors generally don't work well with an HDMI connector. What happens is they usually won't let you choose a resolution higher than 1920 x 1080.

Better monitors use HDMI correctly, but as BobHarris mentioned, you also need a cable that can carry a 4K bandwidth.

Best choice is always going to be DisplayPort or Thunderbolt 3/4. You're connecting a monitor, not a TV.
