retouch problem

hi! i have Macbook Air 13 and it appears i cannot use the retouch tool in the default mac photo editor. upon saving, the retouched area gets corrupted and looks like stains on the image. it happens the moment the save button is clicked. i tried retouching photos in various formats (heic, jpeg, png), the result is the same. my mac uses the latest update - Ventura 13.3. is there any solution?

I finally found a solution/workaround - you gotta use the file -> export option instead of just saving the changes as usual. but this is really messed up, I hope this gets fixed in the upcoming updates

Hello olga811,

Thank you for using Apple Support Communities. Sounds like you’re experiencing issues when trying to retouch photos on your Mac. If so, we’d like to recommend some steps to help troubleshoot this issue and see if we can get this issue sorted out. Let’s start off by testing this issue in safe mode. This step can help isolate possible software related issues: How to use safe mode on your Mac - Apple Support

Apple silicon
1.) Shut down your Mac.
2.) Turn on your Mac and continue to press and hold the power button until you see the startup options window.
3.) Select your startup disk, then press and hold the Shift key while clicking “Continue in Safe Mode.”
4.) Log in to your Mac. You might be asked to log in again.

Intel processor
1.) Turn on or restart your Mac, then immediately press and hold the Shift key as your Mac starts up.
2.) Release the key when you see the login window, then log in to your Mac.
3.) You might be asked to log in again. On either the first or second login window, you should see ”Safe Boot” in the upper-right corner of the window.

Keep in mind, it may take longer to finish the start up, and you'll also see some differences in the display. This is expected with safe mode, and when you restart normally, they'll be gone.

Try editing a photo, save it, and then restart normally. Check on the edited photo, to see if came out as expected.

Depending on your results, follow the steps under “If the issue continues in safe mode” or “If the issue doesn't continue in safe mode”.

We hope these steps are helpful. Thank you for using Apple Support Communities. Take care.
