Unable to sign in to iMessages on Mac

Hi! I'm having an issue signing in to the Messages app on my Mac using my Apple ID. It is the same ID as my Mac's iCloud (and my phone's). I am on MacOS Ventura, and my phone is also updated with the latest version of the software, using MacBook Pro 2020 and iPhone 13 mini. What happens is that I input my Apple ID and password when prompted by the Messages app, and all it does is buffer indefinitely. I have to Force Quit to ever get it to even close. Any tips on how I can solve this? Thanks!

Hey jelpee,

Thanks for using Apple Support Communities. Let's help get you Messages set up so you can stay connected to friends and family. These steps should help:

  1. Restart your Mac for fresh connections, then try once more to sign in: Shut down or restart your Mac - Apple Support
  2. If you still can't sign in, complete the steps here to help connect: If you can't connect to the App Store, iTunes Store, or other Apple services - Apple Support

If the behavior continues, let us know more to help narrow this down:

  • Since updates recently released, which exact macOS is installed? To find out select the Apple menu > About This Mac.
  • Do you use any security software or the built-in firewall as they can block connections?
  • Have you tried while using a different Wi-Fi network to help rule out network issues?

Keep us posted.

Take care!
