The apple ID that my phone says my watch is connected to is not my apple id. How do I change the apple Id the watch it associated with?

I am trying to set up my sons apple watch to his apple phone but its not allow me to do so. When I trying to update and set up it prompts me to sign into an apple ID that I am not aware of. How do I change it?

iPhone 13, iOS 16

Hi SummerBell,

It sounds like you might be getting prompted to enter the Apple ID that was first set up with the Apple Watch.

This is Activation Lock and is a security anti-theft measure.

You'll need to contact whoever you purchased the Apple Watch from to have them follow these steps:

What to do before you sell, give away, or trade in your Apple Watch, or buy one from someone else

That should get you pairing your devices.
