2007 macbook reinstall lion not working

I have a 2007 macbook that currently has no OS, and upon attempting to reinstall it through the recovery app window I am greeted with the message "This item is temporarily unavailable".

am I being too optimistic with apple's servers still hosting the download? if so, how would I boot it off a separate medium like a flash drive?
