Merging duplicate photos iPhone feature

Not sure if this question was asked, but when I’m merging duplicate photos in my photos library (using the new merge feature), I know it keeps the best quality one (eg 2 MB vs 300 KB, for example), and I’m pretty sure it retains the one with specific features (eg keeps the one marked as a “favorite” as opposed to the one that hadn’t been), but does anyone know if it keeps the one that’s in an album? My photos are hyper-organized into about 1,500 albums, and I don’t want the merge feature to remove the photo that also sits in an album (as opposed to the duplicate that may or may not be in an album).
