Unable to update ipad wirelessly, yet itunes is no long supported on my macbook

Trying to update my ipad mini 5th generation 12.3.1 and am getting the error "to download and install this software update connect your ipad to itunes". I tried using my macbook pro to update this ipad, but my macbook doesn't support itunes and throws the error "This update requires macOS version 10.13.99 or earlier" when trying to install it.

Many apps on my ipad no longer work as they require my device to be updated, however there doesn't seem to be a way to do this. Frustrating that Apple would create such an obvious problem.

See Update your iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch with the Finder - Apple Support. You may need to use Finder > Preferences to enable CDs, DVDs and OS devices and trust your computer before you can see the connected device.
