Everything was fine till just a few hours ago - but all of a sudden, Safari is taking way too long to start up. It's like stuck on the rainbow spinner for 15-20 seconds and only then it starts. I tried emptying the cache, and clearing the history, the cookies, nothing is helping.
Even did the update on Safari and it's on the latest version.

Try quitting Safari and then starting it with the Shift key pressed. This will start Safari with only a blank window ie all previous windows and tabs will not be opened.

Have you restarted your device? Have you looked in Activity Monitor to see if there is a very busy process?
Yes, have tried restarting, it doesn't help. The activity monitor shows Safari as "not responding" for the entire 15-20 seconds while Safari just freezes in an attempt to start up.
