1) Could we have a setting that allows us to set a country instead of using location settings?
2) Could we have a setting that allows us to turn off the green dot - its annoying and unnecessary, its obvious the center of the earth is our location

No, you can’t set country. If you give Astronomy access to Location Services, it will show the green dot and your country. If you disable Location Services for Astronomy, by default it will show only USA with no dots.

What would be the point of that? A country is a large area; the sky will look different depending on where you are within the country. Might as well just choose a fixed view of the sky.
Well from the height above the earth anywhere in the UK will look the same.
So how about setting a city.

Also the green dot is annoying, nice to be able to turn it off
