Unable to verify google account even though all my devices are verified. Trying to re-add GMail to my mail account.

Recently, I had to enter my password to get into my account. Since it's been forever, I forgot the p/w so I hit 'forgot password', got a new one, changed it on all my devices, deleted my gmail account from the 'mail' icon on my macbook and now, even though my google account is verified across all my devices, I'm unable to re-add gmail to my email accounts on my macbook. When I go to add an account, my laptop tells me it's unable to verify my account or password. Very frustrating because not only am I unable to do that but now none of the devices have all my contacts in them, some have phone numbers instead of the contacts name's that I had created. I have tried everything, have even had a friend walk through it with me on her laptop, she was able to complete the process, but I'm still unable to. And I can't get support from Google.
