Sync: Keep icloud docs (backkup) but delete all duplicate files on macbook?

I suspect excessive battery drain from iCloud sync constantly polling for desktop file changes.

Reading conflicting info on local backup to iCloud (but delete duplicate files on MBP desktop).

What is the simple, recommended setting combination to only maintain a master backup on iCloud, but with the option to periodically (once per week) update the master with new files?

(Current desktop settings screen capture below)

You cannot. iCloud is primarily a synchronization service. Any document in iCloud is also on your Mac. Any changes are synced automatically.
