Can't get text messages from non-iPhone users

I don't get some texts from non iPhone users. It happens both on individual texts with an android or when it is a few iPhones and one android. It started a few weeks ago and I have tried the usual software update (current) hard reset and turning off and on. Is there some setting I am missing?
