Mic still in use after hanging up a call

I understand the orange dot in the top right corner notifies when mic is being used. But since today the dot doesn’t disappear after hanging up the call as it should and as it used to do till yesterday. How is the mic constantly in use even when there is no ongoing call? And the app it shows is using the mic is ‘Phone’ and I’ve checked there is no ongoing call.

Please help.

We would not know why the mic is still being used after a call ends, but we'd like to help any way we can. Let's start with ruling out some possible causes, along with confirming more details to better understand what's happening:

If there's anything connected to your iPhone at this time, please disconnect it, then test for the same issue.
If you've already quit the Phone app, are there any other apps open when the issue occurs?
Does the orange dot go away after a certain amount of time after it appears, and you've quit out of the Phone app?

Since you have a compatible iPhone model, the latest version is iOS 16.2. You can verify this within Settings > General > About. In case you needed it, this link shows how to first back up, then Update your iPhone or iPad.
