Two factor authentication

My sons apple ID has two factor auth turned on. I got a new phone and my new phone is set up under my iCloud. For some reason the two factor auth texts are going to the old phone numbers

How do you turn off two factor authentication? Two factor authentication is really annoying and it makes it hard to sign into an account, especially when I don't have a phone. My two factor is connected to my mother's phone and we both are pretty sick of it.

That's expected behavior. Your messages go to the trusted number on your account.
