Restoring a backup on a Macbook to an iPhone 6

I have erased an iPhone and I am trying to reinstall the backup from my Macbook. There seemed to be no offer of restoring from the Macbook when I rebooted and my phone seemed to carry on its merry way after coming alive when I entered my Apple ID. I simply did not find a point at which I could restore from my Macbook - as against iCloud or iTunes, none of which I had used.

I now have a phone that is in much better shape than before, but I am wondering how now to restore it from the backup file so I have all my contacts and relevant data. Do I simply go to the Finder on my Macbook, find the phone and restore from there?

Any help much appreciated.... it's an iPhone 6, by the way, and the Macbook is a late 2013 13" Dual Intel.

in Apple support's article (link below).

Restore your iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch from a backup - Apple Support

If needed:

Restore an iPhone, iPad or iPod touch that needs a newer version of iOS or iPadOS – Apple Support

or

If you can't back up your iOS or iPadOS device to a computer or restore it from a backup - Apple Support

Do you have the back up on your MacBook? When you’re setting it up. One of the last things it should do is ask you if you want to set up your iPhone as a new iPhone. Or restore from a MacBook/PC, or restore from an iCloud back up. if you have the backup on your MacBook. Your phone will walk you through what to do at that point.
