phone was locked out bc forgot passcode an need to reset it using my other iPhone

That is not possible. You either need to use the method in the related article which is in the upper left corner of this web page or by using a computer as explained in here.

If you forgot your iPhone passcode - Apple Support

There are no other ways to remove the passcode.
