I can’t add custom labels in iCloud contacts on my new iPhone 14. I could do it on older phones and it’s still possible for hotmail and gmail accounts but not those in the iCloud list. Why?

I just discovered that if I add a contact and save it, I can go back and click edit and then I have the custom label option. I just don’t get it initially. Strange but ok.
How sure are you that those contacts are on iCloud and not any other email account?
Because on my iPhone I have the ability to add a custome label for iCloud Contacts and the same is ratified by this guide. --> Edit contacts on iPhone - Apple Support
If I open lists, click on iCloud and try to add a new contact I can’t customize the labels. The contact is not in hotmail or gmail lists. I get a truncated list of label options.
