In Ventura, Settings, I have Key Repeat Rate set to Fast and Delay Until Repeat set to Short, but key repeat is almost entirely nonfunctional. For most keys, no matter how long I hold down a key, it doesn't repeat even a single time. For some keys, like e, instead of repeating a little window pops up with a bunch of accent marks. For space, return, and delete, key repeat works as expected.
How do I make key repeat work for all keys?

Enter characters with accent marks on Mac - Apple Support
You can try disabling this from the Terminal.app copy and paste:
defaults write -g ApplePressAndHoldEnabled -bool false
reboot if necessary and compare your results.

I had to quit & reopen apps but did not have to reboot. This fixed the problem even for letters without accent characers. Thanks!
