Cannot use Itunes

I am trying to get to old music in iTunes. It is not working. I want to play music that is not from Apple Music or that I did not buy on iTunes, the music is from CDs that I own.

Laura,

Songs that were ripped from CD will be found as files on the computer where you did the rip, and on any copies or backups that you have made. Once you find the files, you can add them to your iTunes (Music) library.

This does not work. It opens iTunes and request I input my password. I have reset my password multiple times but it will not work with iTunes but other Apple apps work fine like Apple Music online and such. I just need music from elsewhere as I am a fitness instructor using music for my classes - some providers have their own players but I need to use my MacBook for a virtual class I will be teaching via Zoom. And I'd also like to use some older songs that I have from before I started having this issue.
