Fixed position volume control

Hi, does anyone know if there is a hope that the useful “Fixed position volume control” will come back?

I have an iPad Pro 11” M1 2021 and the “Fixed position volume controls” option is present. I have now bought a 12.9” M2 2022 and with great disappointment the option has disappeared, it is no longer there, it is no longer possible to choose the orientation of the volume keys. This doesn't make any sense. Why make volume so unintuitive and unnatural? This all happens with iPadOS 16 in November 2022 and makes me think that “Fixed position volume control” will never come back.

Dynamic volume controls were only introduced with release of iPadOS 15.4 onwards. For reasons known only to Apple, the ability to disable this feature is not available for any new models of iPad and iPad Pro that have since been launched - these models being:

  • iPad Air5
  • iPad mini6
  • fourth generation iPad Pro 11”
  • sixth generation iPad Pro 12.9”
  • iPad10

This is documented within this recently updated Apple Support document:
