Apple no longer provide this service, but you can obtain the parts and tools to do the job yourself (eBay, Amazon, etc.) or see how much a local third party repair shop might charge.

The iPod classic line uses very small spinning disks. The hard drive has probably failed. See If you see a red X icon on your iPod classic or iPod nano (5th generation or earlier) - Apple Support (archived copy). You could consider swapping out the drive with some form of SD adaptor kit.

Roughly four years ago I sent my device off for repair (broken audio stem) and it came back like new. The unfortunate matter is that my 2010 iPod classic 160gig is not recognized by Monterey. I might consider getting a 7th-generation iPod Touch.
Mine gives me an Apple logo and a support link, but just clicks and doesn't charge. I'm going to replace the battery but I can't figure out what the clicking noise is. I didn't think that there was any moving parts. 🤔
How odd. My classics work on Monterey.
